Here is the presentation from Friday, for your review and reference.

GD1 plan section diagram lecture 11-17-11

We saw a video on de-boning  a chicken early in the semester by Jacques Pepin. This is an article about him from the New York Times where he emphasizes the importance of technique and repetition in developing a mastery at cooking.

Just found out that there is an exceptional lecture that you should make if at all possible – it’s Sheila Kennedy of Kennedy Violich Architects. I’ve heard her speak before and she’s excellent. It’s at 7 pm tonight (Monday) in Rapson 100. Hope some of you can make it.

Here is a copy of the grading rubric for today’s formal review. As you can see, the categories of assessment coincide with many of the grading criteria we included in the studio syllabus. It may be useful for you to go over these briefly prior to our review this afternoon.

GD1 Studio student assessment 09-19-11

A recent graduate of the architecture program, John Steingraeber (who is a real foodie – he makes his own sausage), pointed me in the direction of this project. Once you read about it, click on “view the collection” to see large images. Shapes and colors are remarkable.

If there are any extra desks in your sections (more than one per person), please move those desks down to the North end of the studio space. The MS students will need those desks. Thanks for your help with this.

Also, if any of us forgot to tell you during studio, please go to the readings section of the website and read the Stan Allen article before class Friday. The second reading, which we’ll discuss on Monday, is also now posted.

This is the blog we’ve started for GD1 studio, fall 2011. Here you’ll find the syllabus, calendar, exercises, readings, and other information about studio. We may post last minute announcements and use the site for general communication, so it will be good to get in the habit of checking in frequently. We’re looking forward to a productive, rewarding semester with you.
